Antibacterial activity
Honey's antibacterial properties sit at the core of Prof. Dr. Öztürk's research, including peer-reviewed work on honey compounds acting against bacterial pathogens (Antibiotics, 2025).
Research
MELYVERA's medical honey formulations stand on more than a decade of peer-reviewed research into honey bioactivity and wound healing — led by our Chief Scientific Officer, Prof. Dr. Ferhat Öztürk.

Chief Scientific Officer
Associate Professor of Biology, Sul Ross State University International — and the researcher whose work on honey bioactivity underpins MELYVERA.
For over 12 years, Prof. Dr. Öztürk has studied the bioactivity of honey — its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties — and its potential in wound healing. He co-directs the HONEY Pathway, a $2.8M USDA-funded research program screening U.S. honeys for medical-grade bioactivity, and his published work has been cited more than 870 times.
Recognized as a medicinal-honey expert by the American Beekeeping Federation, he has presented his research at Apimondia, the American Apitherapy Society, and universities across the United States.

Research program
A five-year, USDA-funded initiative co-directed by Prof. Dr. Öztürk. The program trains student researchers as urban beekeepers and systematically screens U.S. honeys for medical-grade bioactivity — work that underpins how MELYVERA thinks about honey quality.
